We will meet in front of the Blossom Trip office (Safvet Bega Bašagića 30, 71 000 Sarajevo).
Step back in time to the early 1990s when this jewel of intertwined cultures was engulfed in the chaos of war. No one could have foreseen the horrors that unfolded, but from the darkness emerged tales of resilience, bravery, and hope that continue to inspire.
The tour will first take you to the Markale market – a place that was the stage for two massacres in the 90s. After that, you will see a monument to the children who died in besieged Sarajevo in Great park. The monument lists the children killed during the siege of Sarajevo.
As we traverse the streets of Sarajevo, you’ll pass by iconic landmarks like the presidency building and the Holiday Inn hotel, which once served as a sanctuary for international journalistic teams seeking to shed light on the unfolding events. Gain insights into their pivotal roles in documenting the realities of war and the resilience of Sarajevo’s citizens.
Witness the haunting remnants of Sniper Alley, a once-vibrant boulevard that became synonymous with danger and sniper fire during the War in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Hear stories of those who traversed this perilous path and marvel at the indomitable spirit that carried them through.
The centerpiece of our tour is the Tunnel of Hope, an extraordinary feat of engineering born out of desperation. This lifeline connected the besieged city with the free territory of Butmir, providing a glimmer of hope and an essential connection for the people of Sarajevo. Stand within the walls of this historic tunnel and listen to tales of courage and resilience that unfolded within its depths.
At the end of our tour, you will visit Trebević mountain and a famous Bobsleigh track which was made for the 1984 Winter Olympic Games. This mountain was also a place from which shots were fired at the city because from it, Sarajevo is visible as if in the palm of your hand.
Explore the settlement of Grbavica, which remained occupied until the war’s end, and discover the story of Sarajevo’s Romeo and Juliet, a tale of love amidst conflict. Witness the bridge named after the first victims of the war, Suada and Olga, where civilians lost their lives and buildings were reduced to rubble.
